Hindu Temples - Wikipedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hindu_temple

A Hindu temple or Mandir is a place of worship for followers of Hinduism. A picture of most temples is the presence of murtis (images) of the Hindu deity to whom the temple is dedicated. They are usually dedicated to one primary deity, the presiding deity, and other subordinate deities associated with the main deity. However, some temples are dedicated to several deities, and some have symbols instead of a murti. Many temples are located in key geographical points - like hill top, near waterfalls, caves, river origin etc.

India - WikiTravel

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jungle

Jungle refers to the most dense, more or less impenetrable regions within a tropical rainforest with an abundance of animal and plant life. The word jungle originates from the Sanskrit word jangala which referred to uncultivated land. Although the Sanskrit word refers to "dry land", it has been suggested that an Anglo-Indian interpretation led to its connotation as a dense "tangled thicket". while others have argued that a cognate word in Urdu did refer to forests. The term is prevalent in many languages of the Indian subcontinent, and Iranian plateau, particularly in Hindi and Persian.

Kerala Backwaters - Telegraph.co.uk

www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/cruises/7155557/India-Winding-down-in-Keralas-backwaters.html

It was 20 years ago when I first read about this area of India, a maze of winding rivers, canals and lakes stretching nearly 50 miles from Quilon (Kollam) in the south to Cochin (Kochi) in the north. In those days, about 10 of the old rice boats – made of dark, oiled jackwood with canopies of palm thatch and coir – had been converted for the tourist trade. By 2007, according to the guidebook I took with me, there were about 500 plying the waters around Vembanad Lake, the largest lagoon in the area; most had been built solely to carry tourists, and the builders' yards had waiting lists a couple of years long.

Villages constitute a greater portion of India's total geographical area. It is certainly not an overstatement that a major proportion of the countries total population reside in the villages. One of the main differences between the villages of different regions is the language. Being one of the oldest civilisations in the world that has been invaded by several powers, India is home to a huge variety of languages. These include: Bengali, Oriya, Assamese, Punjabi, Marathi, Kannada, Tamil, Gujarati, Telugu, Hindi, etc. The Indian Census of 2001 stated that 74% of Indians live in 638,365 different villages.

Remote Indian Villages

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainforest

Rainforests are forests characterized by high rainfall, with definitions setting minimum normal annual rainfall between 1750–2000 mm (68-78 inches). The monsoon trough, alternately known as the intertropical convergence zone, plays a significant role in creating Earth's tropical rain forests. 40 to 75% of all species on the world's habitats are indigenous to the rainforests. It has been estimated that many millions of species of plants, insects, and microorganisms are still undiscovered. Tropical rainforests have been called the "jewels of the Earth", and the "world's largest pharmacy", because over one quarter of natural medicines have been discovered there.
